ANNUAL REPORT - 2006 The following is the Annual Report for the calendar year 2006 for the Carolina Southern Division 12, Mid-Eastern Region, National Model Railroad Association as was submitted to the NMRA: OFFICERS:Elected Positions
Appointed Positions
DIVISION WEB SITE ADDRESS: The Division maintains a web site at http://www.bytedesign.com/CSDiv/ . The Division's web site was completely updated in December. The division's activities, newsletters and AP progress is displayed along with other information helpful to the division membership. MEMBERSHIP: Membership decreased by five during 2006 from 75 to 70. Most of the difference was the result of matching our membership list to the geographic extract from the region and reclassifying several division members who reside outside our official geographic boundaries. FINANCIAL STATUS: We have had expenses of 60.50 over the past year. Income received was $68.00 from the Region for member services and our current balance is $315.65. DIVISION EVENTS: The Division began meeting almost every month in 2006. Meetings included visits to nearby club layouts, home layouts and display layouts. There was also a tour of the prototype Lancaster and Chester Railroad including their museum, engine servicing facility, and private car restoration operation. During the 2006-year, clinics were presented on Layout Operations and AP Program Documentation. ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM: Our Division has been making good progress in the AP program. This past year we awarded four Golden Spike, one Scenery, two Volunteer, two Chief Dispatcher and one Electrical Achievement certificates. MER CONVENTION ACTIVITY: Since the MER hosted the National Convention this year, there was no MER Regional convention. Several members attended the National Convention. One member presented a clinic there. CHARITABLE AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: The Division reached an agreement with the Town of Brookford to restore and operate Wade's Train Town, a display layout built in a room of the Town Hall by a local citizen over a period of many years. The layout is a 12x20 foot table with over 300 structures, mostly classic kits with modifications, and over 3000 figures, most hand painted. Beginning in July, Division volunteers inventoried the layout, developed a plan for renovation, and rebuilt enough to have trains running when we hosted the first open house in November. The main lines, a trolley line, and the carnival are in operation. Work continues on sidings, structure lighting, and scenic detailing including many scenes originally created by Wade and documented by the Division with photographs before the restoration work began. The Division began hosting open houses in November and is continuing on the second Saturday of every month. The January open house had 140 visitors. Work sessions continue every Thursday night. Thirteen Division members have been involved in the work. Plans are to continue with renovation in 2007 and host a monthly open house. The Help Line on the Division web site handled six requests for assistance including suggestions for disposing of train sets, magazines (donated to Division), ideas for a modular layout, locomotive maintenance, and layout wiring. NEWSLETTER Each year, the Division plans to publish 4-5 issues of the Brass Pounder, our newsletter. In 2006 one issue was published. Almost all distribution to members and friends is through electronic email of an Adobe .pdf format file. The newsletter currently has a distribution of about 130. The Brass Pounder contains reports of previous meetings and other pertinent news and occasional modeling articles. FUTURE DIRECTIONS: The Division plans to continue meetings on a 8-12 times per year basis. Meeting host sites will be a mix of home layouts, clubs, and prototype. Submitted by:
