MADE IN THE CAROLINA SOUTHERN DIVISION

The Mid-Eastern Region newsletter publication, The Local, has from time to time published articles about commercial organizations serving the model railroad community and located within the MER geographical region. We thought it only right to identify similar commercial ventures which are located within the bounds of the Carolina Southern Division.

The following model railroading manufacturers are operating in our area:

bullet Dick Bronson's RR-CirKits
bullet Fred Miller's Challenge Products
bullet John Martin's Custom MOW Trucks
bullet Scott Teague's T&W Productions

If members know of others, please send that information to the webmaster at.

RR-CirKits
Specializing in Affordable Electronics for Model Railroads

Dick Bronson of RR-CirKits provides a number of interesting electronic circuits for use on model railroads. All of these circuits and devices have actually been built and are in operation on Dick’s own railroad, the Little Mountain and Possum Hollow RR. The circuits and kits include a LocoBuffer-USB, Block Occupancy Detectors and some interesting DCC related circuits for signaling and computer interfaces.

Dick says on his web site:  “The goal of RR-CirKits is to provide model railroaders with both the information, and the circuit boards and kits to produce high quality electronic devices for use on their own layouts. I hope to keep each design based on simple to understand principles and to use only readily available parts. In some cases this means that I will not be using a programmable controller to accomplish a task simply, because that would mean that you could not easily build the circuit completely on your own without that key part. My goal is to provide quality circuits at fair prices to those who are willing to build it themselves, but do not want to create their own PC boards.”

More information about RR-CirKits and a full description of Dick’s products is on his website at www.rr-cirkits.com. Don’t miss Dick’s special discount for NMRA members.

Fred Miller developed one of the first railroad oriented PC game simulations back in the early DOS days of 4 color screens.  That product (RRSwitch), along with several others, were updated over the years under the trade name Challenge Products and received a number of complimentary reviews in the model railroad press.  One version of Freight Train, another game simulation developed by Fred, was also published by Abracadata®. Currently available game simulations include RRSwitch, Freight Train and Trolley Time Challenge.

See the Challenge Products web page for more information about these products.
