New MER Bylaws

Because of the changes in bylaws at the national level, the MER Board has produced new bylaws for the Region. They can be downloaded here.

There are three basic changes:

  1. The Trustee is now known as a Director, and the historical direct connection between a Trustee and a Region no longer exists.
  2. Some legal things having to do with Ohio law (where NMRA is incorporated) needing explanation by someone better informed on this (but for example: the title is Director, not Trustee)
  3. The definition of membership has changed. The new definition, as of 9/1/2005, will be: you are a member of the Region you live in. You are not a member of any other Region. You are a member of a Division if you live in the boundary. Region members may vote for Region officers. You are welcome to subscribe to any Region or Division's publication, but that does not make you a member. Publications are all optional. The MER LOCAL will be available electronically for free, paper copy will cost $6/year.  To subscribe, email the MER Business Manager.
These bylaws were effective spring 2006.

Officer elections are held every two years, in even-numbered years. Any member in good standing may run for office--it's not too hard, the latest election (2000) had 4 unopposed candidates. 2002 had only one contested election. 2004 had two contested elections, and nearly 400 ballots returned out of 1000 sent. Director positions are also every two years, in the odd-numbered years.

Donating

Donating to the MER, or to a Division.  The MER and some of the Divisions are IRS 501(c)3 corporations and donations are tax deductible, although we are unable to value the donation for tax purposes -- you'd have to do that.  If you would like to donate, contact the MER President or the Division Superintendent.   Divisions that are NOT 501(c)3 can get donations via the MER, to get the tax deduction.
